WWBA Appoints Head Coach for Senior Women’s Program

11 Sept 2025

Wagga Wagga Basketball Association (WWBA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jack Hutchison as Head Coach of the Senior Women’s Program.

Jack brings a wealth of coaching experience across local, state and development programs. His background includes roles with WWBA, Basketball NSW and Norths Bears to name a few, giving him a broad perspective on player development pathways.

WWBA President Scott Gray said Jack’s appointment marks a significant milestone in the Association’s plans to rebuild and strengthen women’s basketball in the region.

“We are excited to appoint Jack to lead our Senior Women’s Program. His vision, energy and focus on player development align strongly with WWBA’s direction. Jack will play a central role in shaping our women’s pathway, recruiting and retaining players and building a sustainable program that offers opportunities for local athletes and attracts talent from across the Riverina and beyond.”

To kick things off, WWBA will enter a team in the Under 20 Women’s competition in November 2025, with Jack appointed to coach the side. This will act as a pre-cursor to the Senior Women’s Program, providing an early opportunity to engage players, build culture and establish pathways into the 2026 season.

WWBA Player & Coach Development Manager Zac Maloney said Jack is well-placed to lead the program through its rebuilding phase.

“Jack has outlined a clear plan to grow our women’s program in a sustainable way. His approach to recruitment and retention, along with his commitment to player development, gives us confidence that he can establish the right culture from the ground up. The Under 20 Women’s competition will provide a great springboard into the Senior Program, and Jack is the right person to lead that transition.”

The appointment follows an expression of interest and interview process, with Jack presenting a clear strategy for rebuilding the program from the ground up. His approach emphasises defence-first principles, strong communication and a culture based on collaboration, competition and consistency.

Jack said he is looking forward to the challenge of leading both the U20 Women’s team and the new Senior Women’s Program.

“This is an exciting opportunity to rebuild women’s basketball in Wagga. Coaching the U20 Women’s team in November will be a great way to get started and connect with the group. I want to create a program that players are proud to be part of, where they can develop their skills, compete at a high level and contribute to a strong team culture. I’m committed to making this program sustainable and competitive for years to come.”

WWBA will confirm the 2026 competition pathway (Waratah Women’s League or Waratah Youth League) later this year, depending on the age and experience of players who trial for the program. Trials and recruitment activities will commence in the coming months.
